E&E members strike gold in USA
Susan Taylor and Graham Stockdale won a gold medal for their book

Sometimes the best laid plans go awry, writes

This was the case when, after a wonderful day exploring
Boston, USA, our Greyhound bus to Hartford, Connecticut,
had a traffic accident and was severely delayed.
We were then put on a knackered old bus. Dirty, an hour late and no working seat belts. But
worse than that it was raining heavily, outside and in due to the leaky roof.
We were visiting The Great American Stamp Show, an impressive occasion, but by the time David and I arrived, breathless and dragging suitcases, the meeting we really wanted to attend, hosted by the West Indies Philatelic Study Group, had already started.
The Study Group not only had a show stand, which was very popular, but also hosted a series of talks and a

dinner. By the time we got there Steve Zirinsky was already presenting ‘Post Cancels of Dominica’, then ‘Modern Overprints of the Caribbean’. Then it was my turn. I had been asked to share the ‘Anguilla Story’ based on my book.

As it turned out, the WIPSG did well when the awards were handed out.
One of its member Jaz Ali’s ‘Slogans of Trinidad and Tobago’ won a large gold award in the literature category, and ‘Anguilla’s Quest for Identity’ (Taylor, Stockdale, Waldron) took a gold…so the society should feel proud.

The show itself had everything the collector would want - loads of dealers, iinteresting displays and some

incredible exhibitions. We especially liked one ‘Britain’s Marvellous Machins’ by Stephen McGill which won the ‘Most Popular of Champions’ Award.
